That said, plenty of people are losing their streak today, and I'd settle for a 6/6 over a failure any day. But I made it far harder for myself than I should have done. So, with two guesses left (and, according to WordleBot, two possible answers left) I played CANDY wrong again.įinally, I played CANNY and found today's Wordle answer on the sixth guess. I also knew the C had to go first, as I'd tried it everywhere else. I still didn't know where the C went, though, so on my fourth guess I played FANCY.īy this stage I was getting slightly worried, but I had at least eliminated some more letters and confirmed Y as being the final letter.
Instead, I played PANIC and merely confirmed the N in the third spot. Playing something ending in a Y would have made sense, too, as that's the second most likely to end an answer. After all, it's the second most likely letter to start a Wordle answer. What I probably should have done for my third guess is to have played something starting with C. I'm not 100% sure what the six possible remaining answers were, but looking at Wordle Solver after the game suggests that CANAL, CANDY, CANNY, FANCY, MANIC and PANIC are the most likely candidates.
WordleBot praised that guess, telling me I'd cut the number of possible solutions from 126 to just six - but it was all downhill for me from that point. Playing BACON seemed like a good option: as I show in my analysis of every Wordle answer, B is the third most common starting letter behind S and C, while N and C are also very common letters in the game. I decided to move the A to second position, where it's almost as common as it is in third, and to add the next most common vowel, O. The WordleBot says I had 126 options remaining for my second guess, which gives you some indication of quite how many possibilities there were here. I certainly found it tough, only scoring a 6 here, although some of that was due to poor play on my part.Īs always, I started with one of the best Wordle start words, in my case STARE, and that gave me a yellow A. Then again, the NYT's WordleBot says people are completing this in an average of 4.1 guesses, which only makes it about as difficult as Friday's answer of BADGE and not up there with some of the most difficult recent puzzles. That's partly because of the double N, and partly due to the number of possible answers using similar letters. In fact, according to Word and Phrase Info, it's only the 20,363rd most frequently used word in the English language.Įven if you do know what it means, this puzzle might have caused you some difficulties.
Quite a few players are complaining on Twitter that this is an unfair choice, and I can see where they're coming from: although it is a perfectly legitimate word that Merriam-Webster defines as "clever, shrewd," it's also reasonably obscure, certainly among recent Wordle answers. So, what is today's Wordle answer for game #323?
